The course will touch on the specifics of Latvia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland and most of all, will focus on Russia. It will address common issues and questions such as Fetal Alcohol Effect and other common medical issues, why children are abandoned in Eastern Europe, cultural considerations when raising a child from Eastern Europe. The objective of this course is to educate families about the effects on children of malnutrition, relevant environmental toxins, maternal substance abuse and of any other known genetic, health, emotional and developmental risk factors associated with orphaned children. This course will also provide information on the in-country conditions that affect orphaned children. Upon review of this course, families will complete a brief Q & A in order to receive a course completion certificate.

The objective of this course is to provide families with information on the general characteristics and needs of children awaiting adoption, including data on institutionalized children and the impact of institutionalization on children, the effect on children based on the length of time spent in an institution and the type of care provided by the orphanage. The course will also discuss the impact on a child of leaving familiar ties and surroundings. Upon review of this course, families will complete a brief Q and A in order to receive a course completion certificate.

The objective of this course is to educate families about the travel portion of their adoption. This will include an explanation of how the adoption trip is planned, what to expect with your child and general international travel procedures, and the paperwork that is required before travel.
